Ghail Dam - Intermediate Trek

  • UAE Trekkers Kalba, Sharjah United Arab Emirates (map)

Overview of the Improved and Extended Version of Ghail Dam

Nestled just outside Kalba, the Ghail Dam hiking circuit weaves along a serene reservoir, guiding you through two scenic looped ridges with sweeping views of still water on one side and rugged Hajar foothills on the other—a visual contrast that feels both energizing and tranquil. Spanning around 9 km with nearly 400m elevation gain, but after that mostly flat sections around the edges of the mountains overlooking the sea.

With small guided groups, safety-first ethos, and light-hearted local storytelling, this peaceful yet picturesque loop is the perfect escape for new trekkers seeking nature and bonding with like minded hikers.

Highlights: We start with the climb, making an early kick off essential. The first hour of this hike will be spent winding up the switchbacks to get to the first summit. We will stop here for a nice break and snack. Then we will continue overlooking the dam and the edge of the mountain, gaining more elevation before leveling off again. The second summit will be the final push of elevation before we get to walk back gently down the switchbacks to to the end.

Location & Car Access: 1 hour 20 minutes from Dubai. We will park on the side of the road with no off road access required.

Distance & Duration of the Hike: Approximately 10KM loop trail with 460 of elevation gain over the entire trek, this will take not less than 4 hours to complete the circuit.

Running shoes are fine on this trail, but hiking boots are always recommended.
