OMAN - Jabal Shams WINTER Summit: Challenge

Experience the thrill of climbing Jabal Shams in Winter! yes, winter! Prepare for temps hoving around 0-5C!

The highest peak in the GCC at 3009 meters, in December it will be chilly, offering an amazing opportunity to feel real winter in Oman! Note that this climb does require advance planning for transportation and accommodation options to be set up. We cannot guarantee either with reservation less than 2 weeks in advance.

Getting There:

You will need to own your own car to cross the border of UAE to go into Oman, or carpool with someone that does.

Weekend Itinerary:

  • Friday

  • 2 pm: Plan to leave Dubai or Abu Dhabi

  • 7:00 PM: Arrive to Jabal Shams Resort, dinner and sleep

    Saturday Morning;

  • 5:30 am: Wake up and breakfast in your room

  • 5:45:am: Leave for the meeting point;

  • 6:00 am: Meet your guides and start the hike

  • 12:00PM: Summit and turn around

  • 5:00 PM: Reach the end by sunset, return to hotel for well earned shower, dinner and sleep!

  • Sunday Morning:

  • Drive back to Dubai.

Weather Expected:

This winter climb offers cold temperatures BUT less daylight hours, providing an ideal setting for your adventure as long as you are fit! There will be just a full 8 hours of daylight.

Climbing Jabal Shams in winter requires good fitness levels, but rest assured, our experienced guides will be with you every step of the way, ensuring a safe and enjoyable climb. Whether you aim to reach the summit or explore the surrounding trails, our team is dedicated to supporting your journey.

Depart on Sunday, filled with the accomplishment of conquering one of the most majestic peaks in the region. This weekend adventure is perfect for those looking to challenge themselves in a stunning natural setting. Jabal Shams 3009 M, the highest peak in the GCC! Our guides will stay with you and keep you on pace to summit - or the campsite and get back down - within your limits.

Trek: 750 Dh exclusive of the transport and accommodation.

Optional Accommodation

Add on accommodation at the Jabal Shams Resort requires minimum 45 days pre booking and will cost 500 per night per person based on single basis. We can only book with advance reservation at the Shams Resort.

  • We cannot sufficiently describe how hard Jabal Shams is. This is our best shot: First timers should be plan to reach the campsite 2850 M for a 10 hours trek. Only staying at the pace of the guide will allow you to reach summit and return in time for sunset.

    Markers are not always easy to spot and you can get lost easily. Descent is harder than ascent for knees and endurance reasons

  • We will drive on Friday, arrive before sunset.

    Meeting point is at the Sama Resort in front at 3:45 am to start the trek.

    Trek will take 12-13 hours

    Most people spend the night on Saturday as its dangerous to drive in the dark sleepy and exhausted from the trek

    Book and pay for your hotel yourself. and arrive at the start on Saturday morning 4:00 am

    Hotel Booking Option:

    1000 Dh for 2 nights on single basis at the Jabal Shams Resort

    We do not guarantee transportation for this hike from Dubai or Abu Dhabi, it will depend on the total number of people joining and guides availability.

  • Backpack with water bladder (camelback)

    HIKING BOOTS MANDATORY

    Fleece jacket, wooly hat, light mittens for the start and the summit, even in May. Rain jacket and backpack cover.

    Snacks! Lots of them

    6 liters of water and electrolytes

  • 750 Dh Per person. This is for the guides and the logistical support you will get before your hike. it does not include meals , transportation or accommodation.

  • NO VISA REQUIRED

    Just stamp in and out at the Mezyad Border

    Rental cars cannot cross into Oman.
