OMAN - Jabal Shams Summit: Challenge

  • UAE Trekkers jabal shams resort Jabal Shams, محافظة الداخلية Oman (map)

RESCHEDULED: NEW DATES; MAY 17-19

Due to heavy rains in Oman recently and the forecast for more rain to come this weekend, we have made the decision to move this trek forward to May 17-19 in order to give the mountains some time to dry up and improve the conditions.

Climb Jabal Shams 3009 M, the highest peak in the GCC! In the winter, its an even bigger challenge in some respects; first the temps can drop to 5 C! So you need warm clothes, but this also means you will drink a lot less water and that’s easier to carry. The other challenge is that there is less daylight, so the turnaround time is 11 am sharp, which means an early morning start!

Our guides will stay with you and keep you on pace to summit - or the campsite and get back down - within your limits.

  • We cannot sufficiently describe how hard Jabal Shams is. This is our best shot: First timers should be plan to reach the campsite 2850 M for a 10 hours trek. Only staying at the pace of the guide will allow you to reach summit and return in time for sunset.

    5-6 hours to reach summit

    5-6 hours to descend

    Steep inclines

    Rocky steps

Markers are not always easy to spot and you can get lost easily. Descent is harder than ascent for knees and endurance reasons

  • We will drive on Friday, arrive before sunset.

    Book your own hotel.

Meeting point is at the Sama Resort in front at 3:45 am to start the trek.

We will not wait for late arrivals

    Trek will take 12-13 hours

Most people spend the night on Saturday as its dangerous to drive in the dark sleepy and exhausted from the trek

Return on Sunday morning to UAE
