RAK: Shamal Village Sunset Hike

  • UAE Trekkers https://maps.app.goo.gl/pivA3DswvP1NEnUu6 Ras al Khaimah United Arab Emirates (map)

Overview: Explore the Wadi of Jabal Jais and the Old Shamal Village in Rak

It sounds far but its not! Just 1.5 hours on the 611 highway, an EASY drive, no off road sections at all. Join us for a spectacular sunset hike to reach an ancient village tucked inside a wadi behind the actual living village. The hike will take a V shape as we first hike through the rocky wadi to a viewpoint on the opposite side of the wadi, then returning back to catch the sunset over the village with over 100 old houses and even a mosque streching over 500 meters, one of the biggest and best preserved we have ever seen!

This hike is perfect for beginners and especially kids who are comfortable with some scrambling over some small boulders and even better for kids who will be very entertained on this hike- there is nothing boring about it!

Scrambling for the first hour and half and then and exploring the village for the remaining time! an hour drive from Dubai and you reach the mountains! The trail will gain no more than 50m elevation gain and a maximum of 7KM over 2.5 hours, and keep everyone at an enjoyable pace.

Location & Car Access:
Just 1.5  hours from Dubai. Parking just off the side of the tarmac road accessible by any car.

Distance & Duration of the Hike:
Approximately 7KM loop trail, with a maximum of 50 m of elevation gain over the entire trek, this will take about 2.5 hours to complete the circuit.

Highlights: We start going around the back of the mountain towards the dam and entering into the wadi. We will stop here for a nice break and snack. We will end doing the lesser walked part of the wadi and return on a different route back to the cars for a loop circuit avoiding too much elevation.
